Art with a purpose

Art can be so much more than just a piece of decoration. WENDY is the proof of that. Besides being a beautiful sight, this sculpture will also actively clean the airspace surrounding it. A geometric piece which translates art with a purpose.

WENDY is developed by HWKN and it will be placed in the summer in front of MoMA PS1 in Queens. The sculpture is made from nylon fabric treated with titania nano-particles that actively clean the air, which is equivalent to removing 260 cars from the road. In the film below you can see the technology of the sculpture.

This piece of art is a great example of combining beauty with the salvation of ecological problems. Especially buildings are just filling space, but are missing the extra function which can help the future environment. The type of technology that will be used in this sculpture is easy enough to integrate directly into designs of new buildings. Besides solving ecological issues WENDY also creates a place of fun and socializing.

Because of the success of this new acquisition for the museum MoMa PS1, HWKN made more equal pieces to actively fight pollution on a larger scale. Watch the concept of WENDY below, to see art with a purpose.
