Oprichter van het Second Sight Platform en uitgever van het Second Sight Quarterly Magazine
Andrea Wiegman
"Skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been", as Wayne Gretzky, the ice hockey player once said … and many great people have used this in their speeches over the past years: Steve Jobs and Arianna Huffington, to name but a few…
In 2008 I founded Second Sight, a continuation to the trend magazine Eye, which I had founded earlier (in 1997), together with Jan Bletz.
We are working on a continuous research into the spirit of the times, the 'zeitgeist'. I have been doing this for fifteen years. At Second Sight we make books, magazines, organize meetings and training courses. The network is at the heart of our company.
Trend forecasting is an interesting and growing profession. As a publisher, guest speaker, guest lecturer and network-enabler, I have never succeeded in turning to another subject. I studied the spirit of the times during my history studies and I still do so now.
Much is changing in the world and that is why insight into the zeitgeist and looking ahead are important now. The boundaries of short-term thinking and acting have become visible and the world is changing ever more rapidly. Where are we heading and what should we invest in?
It serves a purpose to have insight into important developments and the roots of change. To make the right choices for the future. A more future-oriented view of the world; an eye for long-term trends and other visions, help organizations progress. And that is what it is all about in this business: it is about thinking and taking a moment to consider the change. All of this is done with the intention to create a better, more beautiful and more sustainable world, together.
I regularly give presentations on trends and forecasting in the corporate sector (e.g. Rabobank, ABN Amro, ING, Ministry of Finance, The Netherlands Court of Audit, Rijkswaterstaat (Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management), OVO, Philips, Sanoma Media, Marc Cain, VNU Exhibitions, IIR, Post NL, the municipality of Amsterdam, Stimuleringsfonds voor de Nederlandse Pers (Dutch Press Promotion Fund), Xs4All, Cendris, Ambo/ Anthos Publishers, Penguin, L'Oréal, Sara Lee, Ziggo, Moet & Chandon, We are beauty). I also guest lecture at Nyenrode, University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Artez Arnhem, HKU (Utrecht School of the Arts) & Fontys.
The topics vary: on trends or visions; forecasting and futurizing in general and why this is important for organizations; on change, on creativity, on the network economy, on storytelling and entrepreneurship.
My motto is "Let's keep our future well!". And we can!
I live and work in the heart of Amsterdam, with my husband and two sons.

I once heard a great futurist say: 'Every futurist who is worth his salt is an historian' – so there lies a great job ahead for historians!
