Finding the hidden wonders

just around the corner, by Atlas Obscura

Do you recognize the feeling of everyone travelling to the same places, watching the sightseeing tours that you’ve already seen on tv? Atlas Obscura wants to trigger the missing curiosity within these travellers. They help us finding the right questions that should be asked, so they can take us to a whole new world right under our noses. Atlas Obscura opens a world full of hidden wonders.

Dylan Thuras, co-founder of Obscura said: ‘Atlas helps finding a new set of eyes for everyone’. Atlas Obscura is the definitive guide to special places all over the world. The website is an online community where they engage with the visitors about the wonders of cities. At the end the visitors become the writers and editors of the community, that is the natural process of an online community. Because of the enthusiastic visitors, the community is growing very fast. So as an addition, Atlas also organizes real-life events. On of those events is Obscura day.

Obscura Day, a day of local expeditions, back room tours, and hidden treasures, took place all over the world on Saturday, April 28th. This day is all about helping thousands of people explore the world around them. ‘It is not about seeing something unusual, but often it is about stepping out of your routine into someone else’s routine’, said Thuras. Furthermore, it is extra exciting to meet people who enjoy these other routines, in order to share their experiences and stories.

The future of this website lies in becoming a greater and bigger resource. One where everybody can be triggered to find overlooked places, because every city has her hidden wonders just around the corner.
